Both the player and the dealer are dealt three cards each, and the player must decide to Play or Fold after seeing their hand. The compressed three-card format produces fast hand resolution and a simplified hand hierarchy compared to five-card poker games.
The game's structure involves two components: the Ante/Play combination and the optional Pair Plus side bet. Players must post an Ante before receiving cards. After seeing their three cards, they either place a Play bet equal to the Ante or fold and forfeit it. The dealer needs at least Queen-high to qualify; if the dealer does not qualify, the Ante pays 1:1 and the Play bet pushes. When the dealer qualifies and the player wins, both bets pay according to the paytable — with premium hands like straights, flushes, and three-of-a-kind paying enhanced odds on the Ante.
The Pair Plus side bet is independent of the dealer's hand. It pays based solely on whether the player holds a pair or better, with the paytable typically starting at 1:1 for a pair and reaching 40:1 for a straight flush. The side bet adds variance without requiring an additional decision.
Playtech's version follows the standard licensed rules and uses a single deck shuffled between hands. The 3.37% house edge on the Ante/Play applies with optimal strategy — fold below Queen-6-4, play everything else — making this a reasonable choice among casino poker variants.
